What's going on at Criius Gaming?

Hey everyone! Jordan and Alex here. It's been an exciting few months for us at Criius and we wanted to update you all about what’s been going on.

Sunday Scrims

We kicked off the year by organizing Criius Sunday Scrims, where we engaged with over 20 Canadian collegiate teams across the country by showcasing high level practices known as scrims. Currently, we stream two, best of five Rocket League matches every other Sunday. This gives players the opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive environment to a greater audience since the games are professionally streamed on our Twitch channel with casters and a show format. We have had a lot of fun showcasing these teams and plan to continue to do so in the future.

One of the most exciting opportunities we had with Criius this year was being finalists in the 2022 JMH LaunchPad Pitch Competition at Mount Royal University. Upon being accepted, we worked tirelessly over the month of March to prepare our pitch. Although we didn’t receive an investment from the competition, we had a fantastic time at the event, networked with tons of people, and learned more about the business side of esports. The experience fueled our drive to continue working hard and growing our passion for growing Canadian esports.

Expanding into Halo

One of our priorities we identified during the pitch was the importance of expanding into more esports titles. Shortly after the competition, we accomplished this goal. We are SO excited to break into the Halo esports scene. In April, we officially introduced our all-Canadian Halo roster, who are currently competing against some of the top teams in the world.

Criius Bi-Weeklies

Due to the success we had with Sunday Scrims, we decided to take things to the next level and began hosting our own bi-weekly tournaments with a $30 grand prize. We took feedback from the players who participated in the Sunday Scrims and built this event from the ground up. We are facilitating the organization, moderation, broadcasting, and social media promotion of the event. Currently, we’ve had over 50 participants to each tournament. We are actively growing the tournament and hoping to increase the grand prize. We have seen a fantastic turnout not only from participants, but from spectators as well, indicating the future looks promising for tournament organizing being part of Criius.

We have been very busy over the past few months, but this is still just the beginning. We have lots of events and entertaining content coming in the next few months so stay tuned.
